Friedrich Bodenmüller (* 1845 in Munich ; † 1913 there ) was a German painter .

life and work

Bodenmüller, a brother of the artist Alphons Bodenmüller , was born in Munich in 1845 as the son of a painter. From 1861 he studied at the Munich Art Academy under Josef Schlotthauer . In the following years he mainly painted biblical scenes and genre paintings . In July 1870 he and his brother Otto volunteered for the Bavarian Army and served as an officer in the Franco-German War of 1870/71. As a result, he mainly created paintings related to the war, including street fighting in Versailles , episode from the Battle of Sedan and Bavarian troops in the Battle of Wörth . Other panels by Bodenmüller deal with fantastic allegorical motifs, such as fantasies for Beethoven's Cissmoll Sonata . From the 1880s he increasingly turned to genre and history painting.
