Friedrich Boese (politician, 1829)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich Boese (* 1829 ; † August 9, 1907 ) was a German politician, bailiff in Freienohl, mayor in Brilon , senior rentmaster and member of the Prussian House of Representatives .

Life

Boese was the bailiff of the Freienohl office . Then he was mayor of Brilon from July 1, 1865 to December 1, 1870. In 1868 he sought sources on the city's history from Johann Suibert Seibertz and an archivist to organize the city archive. After his activity in Brilon he was general mandate of the Count of Westphalen zu Laer . He later lived in Münster.

During his time as bailiff he still tried to establish a conservative association in Freienohl, but failed because, according to reports from the district administrator, everything there had been "politically undermined by the Arnsberg democracy". During the Kulturkampf he publicly stood up for the designated chaplain Fischer in Meschede. He became active in the Center Party. In the conflict over the successor to the long-time member of the Landtag and Reichstag, Peter Reichensperger , he was nominated by some dignitaries in 1893 in the necessary by-elections for both the House of Representatives and the Reichstag as a candidate for the Center Party. At the nomination it was said confidently: "Mr. Boese combines all the qualities that make a really good Catholic representative, and it is certain that he will soon be elected with a large majority" The election to the House of Representatives went smoothly. On the other hand, the center honorarians underestimated the mood among the general public when they ran for the Reichstag. Attendorn workers said: “Stay away with the civil servants and senior pensioners, it won't work, we workers are incorrigible.” Alongside other candidates, the “left center man” Johannes Fusangel was nominated against him . The election campaign between Boese, which was also massively supported by the parliamentary and state parliamentary factions, and the Fusangel carried out by workers, small farmers and craftsmen, was highly emotional and caused a sensation all over Germany. Evil succumbed. Fusangel got about 15,000 votes, Boese only 5000. Boese later returned his mandate in the state parliament. This went to Georg von Detten .
