Friedrich Gabler
Friedrich Gabler (born May 28, 1931 in Vienna ; † August 21, 2016 ) was an Austrian horn player.
Life
Friedrich Gabler studied with Gottfried von Freiberg at what was then the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
After graduating from high school , he was appointed first horn player in Reykjavík . In 1952 he got a job at the Vienna Volksoper , where he worked for 41 years, including 25 years as a solo horn player. He also played with the Vienna Philharmonic and other Vienna orchestras and was the founder of the “ Vienna Wind Quintet ”.
Gabler was the editor of previously unpublished manuscripts of compositions for horn and woodwind quintets (at Doblinger Verlag Vienna).
As the successor to Gottfried von Freiberg, he led a class at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (now University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna ) for a long time . He was head of the department for wind and percussion instruments as well as prorector.

- 1991: Golden Ring of Honor of the Vienna Volksoper
- 1994: Great Silver Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria
