career

Oberliga West, 1959 to 1961

In the 1959/60 round, "Friedel" Giegeling moved from SSVg Velbert from the Lower Rhine regional league to Viktoria Cologne in the Oberliga West. Coach Hennes Weisweiler used the 23-year-old player in all 30 matches in his debut year in the Oberliga West. Mostly the left-footed player acted as a left outer runner, but he was also used as a left connector or as a left winger on the side of center runner Hans Löring and right winger Ernst-Günter Habig . Viktoria took seventh place in the major league. Also in the second season, Giegeling was a member of the Weisweiler team with 26 appearances. Despite the strikers Carl-Heinz Rühl and Willibert Kremer , Viktoria landed in 10th place in the 1960/61 round. With the city selection Cologne, "Friedel" Giegeling took part in the European Exhibition Cup by playing against AS Roma . In the three encounters against the Romans on January 18, February 8 and the decider on March 1, 1961, the man from Velbert was on the ball for Cologne. Outstanding was the 2-0 away win in February 1961 in Rome. In the Olympic Stadium, the city selection (combination 1. FC and Viktoria) started on February 8th in the following formation: Klemm (Viktoria) - Stollenwerk, Schnellinger (1. FC) - Chr. Breuer, Wilden (1. FC), Mühlenbock (Viktoria) - Rühl (Viktoria), Sturm, Chr.Müller (1. FC), Giegeling, Kremer (Viktoria). The "Giallorossi" from AS Roma won the trade fair cup of the 1960/61 season in the finals against Birmingham City . The outstanding goalscorer of the competition was her center forward Pedro Manfredini . After two years at Viktoria Köln, Giegeling moved back to his home club, SSVg Velbert, in 1961.

By June 1965 he played three more international matches as a player for SSVg Velbert. In the following two years he was a member of SSV Heiligenhaus and played another six national games for the DFB amateur team. Outstanding were the games against Turkey and Yugoslavia in the first ever UEFA Amateur Cup in 1966 . With Peter Klepatz and Dieter Zorc he formed the runner row. Giegeling played his eleventh and last amateur international game on December 7, 1966 in Koblenz against Yugoslavia. Giegeling returned to Velbert as a player-coach and won the championship in the Amateur League Niederrhein in the 1968/69 season, ahead of Bayer 05 Uerdingen and Rheydter SV . In the promotion round to Regionalliga West , he and his team qualified together with SG Wattenscheid 09 and DJK Gütersloh , and SpVgg Erkenschwick later also made the leap into the second division. It was not until the seventh match day that Velbert celebrated its premiere in the new "Sonnenblume" stadium with a 2-0 home win against TSV Marl-Hüls in the Regionalliga West. Giegeling could not appear as a player-coach for his club in the regional league and was replaced as coach by Bernd Oles in the second half of the season .

Trainer

From the 1975/76 season "Friedel" Giegeling took over the training management at BV 08 Lüttringhausen . Right off the bat he led the 08er to the championship in the district class and thus to promotion to the state league. In 1978 he was promoted to the Niederrhein Association League. When the autumn champions 1978/79 made a return start with 1: 5 points with 27:10 points, Giegeling was replaced as coach by the former team captain of Wuppertaler SV, Manfred Reichert . At the end of the round, BV 08 Lüttringhausen was promoted to the amateur league in North Rhine-Westphalia.
