Friedrich Holtze

Friedrich Holtze (born August 7, 1855 in Potsdam , † October 10, 1929 in Berlin ) was a German lawyer and historian .

Holtze grew up in Berlin as the son of the teacher at the Potsdam Cadet House, professor at the Prussian Main Cadet Institute and later librarian at the Prussian War Academy Friedrich Wilhelm Holtze . Through his parents' house, he had early contact with members of the Association for the History of the Mark Brandenburg and with other important persons in Berlin and Prussian politics, science and culture. After visiting the school to the Gray Monastery studied Holtze at the Berlin University Law , 1879, he received his doctorate.

During his assignment as a local judge in Arnswalde , he worked as an assistant judge at the Berlin Court of Justice as early as 1888 . In 1900 he was appointed as a member of this court and later appointed to the chamber judge and secret judiciary .

Holtze was characterized by special expertise in Brandenburg Canon Law and in other early legislation. He published in particular on topics of legal and regional history and was called "the legal historian of Prussia". He was also a founding member, long-time secretary and honorary member of the Association for the History of Berlin as well as a member of several other state historical committees.
