Friedrich II. Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf (* April 21, 1568 ; † June 15, 1587 ) was the eldest son of Adolf I and Christine of Hesse (1543-1604).

In 1582 he enrolled at the University of Heidelberg , where his coat of arms is shown in large in the register book. As a youth he already had a benefice as canon at Lübeck Cathedral , which he renounced in 1585 in favor of his younger brother Johann Adolf . His father had actually intended to divide the Gottorf portion of the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein between his eldest sons. When Adolf I died in 1586, however, only his eldest son Friedrich came of age, who therefore succeeded his father alone. He died before an election or homage could take place. His successor was his next younger brother Philipp .

He was buried in the crypt in the Schleswig Cathedral .
