Friedrich von Brandenburg (* 12. December 1530 in Berlin , † 2. October 1552 in Halberstadt ) from the sex of the Hohenzollern was as Frederick IV. Prince Archbishop of Magdeburg , and as Frederick III. Prince-Bishop of Halberstadt .

Life

Friedrich was the second son of the Brandenburg Elector Joachim II (1505–1571) from his marriage to Magdalene (1507–1534), daughter of Duke George of Saxony . The prince was trained in Frankfurt an der Oder , among other places , and in 1548 was elected the postulated Bishop of Havelberg by the Havelberg Cathedral Chapter under considerable influence from his father .

After the deposition of Archbishop Johann Albrecht in the Schmalkaldic War , Friedrich was postulated as Archbishop by the Magdeburg Cathedral Chapter in order to prevent the Elector of Saxony from taking over the Archbishopric. Friedrich had acted as coadjutor in Magdeburg and Halberstadt under Johann Albrecht . In December 1551, the Pope confirmed Friedrich's position as Archbishop of Magdeburg. The following year he also became Bishop of Halberstadt. In Halberstadt it could only take effect to a limited extent. The cost of 22,000 guilders of his 37-week reign expresses his sumptuous household.

Friedrich died at the age of 21. Death was initially kept secret, which fueled rumors of poisoning. He was buried in Halberstadt Cathedral.
