Terra Naomi (* 23. June 1979 in Saratoga Springs , New York , USA ) is an independent pop / rock / alternative / indie singer who especially the song 'Say It's Possible', which in 2006 by the video YouTube has been published , achieved international fame. She lives in Los Angeles, California, writes and sings her own songs and plays the piano and guitar .

biography

Terra Naomi spent the first few years of her life on a farm in Saratoga Springs. Her family later moved to Cleveland , Ohio , where they spent six years until they finally settled in Schenectady , New York, the place where their cosmetic surgeon father grew up. Her mother is a social worker and she has two brothers.

Musical career

Naomi received lessons in classical piano and singing at Interlochen Performing Arts Camp in Michigan and Belvoir Terrace Fine & Performing Arts Camp for girls in Lenox , Michigan . During this time she also participated in the Aspen Opera Theater Program . After college, Terra Naomi moved to New York City and began writing her own songs. During this time she also started playing the guitar. She played her way through various clubs in Manhattan , such as B. The Bitter End , The Sidewalk Cafe and The Living Room . After a self-organized tour of the USA (2003), which began in New York City and ended at the Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle , Naomi went to Los Angeles to meet with producer Paul Fox ( XTC , 10,000 Maniacs , Sixpence None the Richer , Edwin McCain , Phish and The Sugarcubes ). In 2003, 2004 and 2005 she toured the United States. She also came to Canada and England a few times (there she was seen at the "In The City" festival in Manchester ).

She posted videos of her " virtual summer tour", posting performances from her Hollywood apartment and question-and-answer videos titled "Ask a Wanna-be Rockstar" online . Her video for the song "Say It's Possible" was released in June 2006. Many users then posted hundreds of cover versions online as a homage to this video, also supported by a video in which Naomi shows the necessary guitar fingerings. Some fans even translated the song into Spanish , Italian and Chinese .
