Friedrich Johann Jacobsen

Friedrich Johann Jacobsen (born June 29, 1774 in Heide ; † February 24, 1822 in Altona ) was a German lawyer and author of legal publications on the subject of maritime law .

Life

Friedrich Johann Jacobsen was the son of a court attorney in Heide ; his father was later parish bailiff in Wesselburen until his death in 1793 .

Friedrich Johann Jacobsen attended the public school in his hometown and received his first scientific lessons there. In 1791 he switched to high school in Altona and began studying law at Kiel University in 1793 after the death of his father . After completing his studies, he became a lower court attorney at the court in Altona in 1796 , where he was promoted to higher court attorney in 1805.

In his role as a junior lawyer, he made a trip to London (Great Britain) on prize matters . There he met the admiralty judge William Scott, 1st Baron Stowell and other English legal scholars know. Because of these acquaintances, he began to study both maritime law and English literature.

In 1803 he was appointed court attorney and as such he published some important works on maritime law , so that he was recognized as an authority in this field. His works have been published in Germany as well as in Great Britain and North America and used for jurisprudence.

Johann Friedrich Jacobsen was in his first marriage to Johann Louisa Henrietta Jacobsen, b. Fischbach (born November 6, 1774; † August 19, 1818) and in second marriage to Maria Eliza Jacobsen, b. Penecke married. After his untimely death he left a widow and eight children. His tombstone is in the historic cemetery of the Christian Church (Klopstockkirche) in Hamburg-Ottensen .

Honors

Friedrich Johann Jacobsen received a gold medal from the Association of Hamburg Assecuradeurs for his work Ueber Contracte in Subject von Berglohn in 1821.
