Friedrich Josef Anton Roth von Schreckenstein (* 1753 in Eichstätt ; † 1808 in Donaueschingen ) was a baron and local researcher in Immendingen at his castle Immendingen . He was married to Kunigunde Freiin von Riedheim and had a son and two daughters.

Life

He was born as the son of Court Marshal Franz Anton Roth von Schreckenstein. After his upbringing as a noble boy and studying law and philosophy at the universities of Salzburg and Würzburg from 1770 to 1776, he went on trips to Holland and France, visited the German royal courts and acquired a wide range of knowledge. After his father died in 1774, he broke off his planned diplomatic career and managed his estates in Immendingen and Billafingen . His whole endeavor was to improve agriculture and the entire infrastructure for the benefit of the common good. He was a co-founder of the Society of Swabian Naturalists and wrote a book on Baar fruit varieties , a directory of insects, and books on botany. On January 19, 1805 he founded the Society of Friends of Patriotic History and Natural History at the sources of the Danube , the Baarverein , one of the oldest German history societies , which is still active today . Members were among others, Freiherr Joseph von Laßberg and Sigmund Riezler . In 1778 he became court and councilor of the prince-bishops of Eichstätt. In 1788 Engelbert excited him about botany and developed into a recognized scientist. On August 30, 1807, he sold all his rights to Immendingen: buildings, property and uses for 75,000 guilders to his co-lord, Baron Josef von Reischach, and moved to Donaueschingen. He turned out to be very social and considered the nobility to be outdated.
