The Upper Castle is both the landmark of the Immendingen community and its town hall . The oldest part of the castle dates back to the 12th century.

For the years 1409 and 1466 the castle is documented as the property of the Lords of Almenshofen, who owned it until 1531. After the Fürstenberg family had acquired the Upper Castle in 1807 from the von Reischach family, they set up Baden's first machine factory there in 1835 , whose large waterwheel was operated with water from the Weisenbach. The production program included the construction of wheels, saw mills and grinding mills. In 1889 production was relocated to the Lower Castle . In the 1930s, the municipality of Immendingen acquired the castle, which was used for residential purposes until 1961, including for refugees. The city had the castle completely renovated between 1961 and 1963 and converted into a town hall.

The castle is almost square with sides of 33 or 27 meters and has a round tower at every corner with the exception of the northeast corner. There is an inner courtyard in the middle of the complex. Originally it was probably a moated castle whose trenches have now been buried.

Every two years on the first weekend in September, the Immendingen community and local associations celebrate the Immendingen Castle Festival around the Upper Castle and in the adjacent streets.
