The castle ruin Michelstein-Granegg , also called Graneck or Michelstein , is the ruin of a rock castle on the castle rock at 921  m above sea level. NN west of the community Egesheim in the Tuttlingen district in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The castle was built in the 11th century by the Lords of Michelstein and is first mentioned in 1102. This year a Reginhard von Michelstein is named as a witness at a donation. This family is mentioned for the last time in 1305 with Agnes von Michelstein, the castle was named Michelstein until the 16th century. The castle is said to be partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1356. 1377 the imperial city destroyed Rottweil in the first big cities Kriegenburg Michel Stone and the village Bubsheim , with remains of walls ( dry stone - and humpback ashlar masonry ) and part of the keep remain.

1483 Bertold von Balgheim is enfeoffed with the ruin by Duke Sigmund of Austria . In 1489 the fiefdom passed to the Stain von Steinegg . From 1536 to 1792 the fiefdom was owned by the Ifflinger von Granegg family , from whom Michelstein Castle was then given its new name. In 1792 Karl-Alexander sells his Fridingen property with the Michelstein castle ruins for 95,000 guilders to Emanuel and Michael Levi from Hechingen . In 1831 the ruins were bought back by Karl von Ifflinger.

In 1923 the tower ruins are owned by the Catholic Church Administration in Rottweil and in 1931 it goes to the Swabian Alb Association , which is responsible for securing the ruins.
