The castle Bald Mountain is an Outbound Spur castle at the southern end of the plateau of the Trinity mountain 2,100 meters east of the city Spaichingen in the district of Tuttlingen in Baden-Württemberg .
Geographical location
The former castle was at the southern end of a terrain spur of the Dreifaltigkeitsberg near Spaichingen, between Tuttlingen and Rottweil, on the southwestern edge of the Swabian Alb .
The Dreifaltigkeitsberg is a mountain spur 970 meters above sea level and one kilometer long, which drops steeply on three sides. The name of the castle is reminiscent of the original name ("Baldenberg") of the mountain before the famous pilgrimage church was built in the 17th century. The name was changed in 1673. The church, which has been used as a chapel since around 1400, is located in the middle of the plateau on its western edge.
history
The spur was already settled in prehistoric times (the remains of a refugee castle have been preserved ) and possibly served as a place of sun worship. In the Middle Ages it was the location of Baldenberg Castle. This was mentioned in the year 1281 in the possession of the Lords of Balgheim . From the former castle complex only remains of ramparts and moats can be seen as the remains of a medieval castle site .
