The Ifflinger Schloss in Fridingen

The Ifflinger Schloss is a residential tower castle in the municipality of Fridingen an der Donau . It was built around 1330 by Heinrich von Hohenberg with a fence and a moat , was located within the city walls and was the seat of the Hohenberg administration. In a later expansion, the residential tower was raised and the stepped gable was added. An agricultural and servants' building were built in the enlarged courtyard.

With the sale of the County of Hohenberg to Austria in 1381, the castle also became an Austrian fief. With this it came into different hands until the fiefdom with the castle was finally acquired in 1536 by Hieronymus Ifflinger von Granegg . In 1793, Karl Alexander Ifflinger von Granegg sold the castle and the property. The city of Fridingen acquired the castle and used it as a poor house, school, club rooms, factory and fire station . The original residential tower was demolished after 1800. On the night of January 23-24, 1942, a fire broke out on the third floor due to an overheated stove; the extinguishing work was very difficult at minus 32 ° C. The roof structure, upper floor and stairwell were destroyed, the bell has since been lost.

From 1977 the castle was renovated, in the course of the work a Gothic ribbon of windows was uncovered in the former main room of the castle. In 1987 the local history museum in Ifflinger Schloss, founded in 1974, was able to move into new rooms.
