Friedrich Karl Thauer (born April 3, 1924 - † January 20, 2009 ) was a German painter.

Thauer came from a traditional family of artists. His father Heinrich Thauer was a master student under Roth. Among other things, he made the designs for the fresco “St. Benno with Münchner Kindl ”at the Old Town Hall in Munich, as well as for the three mosaic domes in the Munich North Cemetery . He portrayed famous contemporaries from public life.

Friedrich Karl Thauer studied a. a. with the painter and restorer Franz Haggenmiller, as well as with Motz in Munich. Through Oskar Kokoschka , with whom he studied at the international academy in Salzburg, Austria, he also received decisive influence in his figurative representations.

In 1946, at the age of 21, Thauer exhibited together with Gabriele Münter and others from the Kandinsky district in Murnau. Gabriele Münter spoke of Thauer's genius.

FK Thauer's collective exhibitions were in Switzerland, where he had great success in Zurich in the “Am Pfauen” gallery. His success led to his appointment as Cavaliere stella al merito artistico .

FK Thauer has dedicated himself entirely to the tradition of the Munich School in his work on cityscapes and landscapes . His works are set in impressionism .

From 1963, FK Thauer had a second studio in Arco , Italy, in hermit isolation. Works by FK Thauer can be found in many important international collections.

  • 1985: Title of “Gran master dell'arte” in Reggio nell'Emilia
  • 1987: the "Oscar Città del Tricolore".
  • 1988: “Premio Biennale di Venezia”, bronze lion.
  • 1988: Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon awarded for the "high quality of the paintings and the deepening of the cultural relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and Italy".
  • 1998: “Premio Nobel Dell'Arte”, Nobel Prize for Art in San Marino.
