Friedrich Kethorn (born April 20, 1951 in Neerlage , now Isterberg , Samtgemeinde Schüttorf ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 2005 to 2019 he was District of Bentheim and previously from 1990 to 2005 Member of the Parliament of Lower Saxony .

Life

Friedrich Kethorn was born on his parents' farm in Neerlage and grew up there. His father was the local politician Gerhard Kethorn. After secondary school , he completed an agricultural training course in Melle , attended a technical school in Neuenhaus and graduated as an agricultural master. Since his marriage to Henni Mülstegen in 1974, he has been working as an independent farmer on the Mülstegen farm near Nordhorn. He worked as a trainer and specialist practice teacher in the basic vocational training year up to 1984. His marriage resulted in three sons. Kethorn is an Evangelical Reformed denomination . In his home village, the Kethorngraben bears the name of his family.

Kethorn was involved in the Grafschafter rural youth from 1971 to 1975 as district chairman. In 1982 he joined the CDU and was district manager of the Grafschafter CDU from 1984 to 1990. From 1986 to 1991 he was also a member of the council in the city of Nordhorn . As a result, he became a member of the district council in the Grafschaft Bentheim district, where he took over the chairmanship of the environmental committee and was parliamentary group leader of his party until his election as district administrator. The chairmanship of the district association of the CDU in the county of Bentheim was transferred to him from 1992. He is also a member of the CDU regional executive committee.

Friedrich Kethorn was a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament from June 21, 1990 (12th to 15th electoral term); he resigned his mandate on January 26, 2005. In the state parliament he was an expert on agriculture.

On June 13, 2004, Friedrich Kethorn was elected as the first full-time district administrator in the Grafschaft Bentheim district for a term of eight years. He received 51.35% of the vote. He took office on January 1, 2005. On June 1, 2011, Friedrich Kethorn was nominated by the Grafschafter CDU as a district administrator for the election period from 2012 to 2020.

In the local elections in 2011 , the election for full-time district administrator was due for the second time. Here incumbent Kethorn was able to maintain his position. Kethorn won with 52.06% of the vote ahead of his opponent, Daniela De Ridder , from the Grafschaft Bentheim electoral alliance , which was formed by the SPD, the Greens and the Grafschafter Bürgerforum (47.94%).

Kethorn retired on October 31, 2019. His successor as District Administrator of the Grafschaft Bentheim district is Uwe Fietzek (non-party).
