Friedrich Lucanus

Friedrich Gottfried Hermann Lucanus (born December 3, 1793 in Halberstadt ; † May 23, 1872 there ) was a German pharmacist , art lover and restorer.

In 1756 he wrote the chronicle about the village of Schachdorf Ströbeck and its chess tradition. His ancestors had already written down the history of Halberstadt ( Lucan library from the period 1556 to 1732). In 1828, with the help of Werner Friedrich Julius Stephan von Spiegel, he founded the Halberstädter Kunstverein . In 1839 he experimented with the photographic process of daguerreotype .

Lucanus' son was a lawyer and politician Hermann von Lucanus .
