Werner Friedrich Julius Stephan Freiherr Spiegel zum Desenberg (born January 30, 1802 in Kassel , † April 10, 1877 in Halberstadt ) was the owner of the manor and canon of Halberstadt.

He came from the old Westphalian noble family Spiegel . His father was Werner Adolf Heinrich von Spiegel (picture right) zum Desenberg. He studied at the University of Marburg , enrolled on August 3, 1820 for "Cameralia ac res forestalis". In 1821 he took over the so-called Köhlersruhe east of Marburg and expanded it with an iron music pavilion, a stone grotto and a drinks cellar as a place for excursions, which significantly increased the number of visitors. The place was later named "Mirror Lust" after him.

After his father's death in 1828 he inherited his numerous and extensive estates, including Gut Rothenburg and Gut Übelngönne . He moved to Halberstadt, where he built the riding school on Dominikanerstraße, built an extensive collection of paintings and, together with Friedrich Lucanus, established the Halberstädter Kunstverein .

At the beginning of the 1830s he moved to the Seggerde manor , where he had the castle rebuilt in 1834-38. In 1873 he received the honorary citizenship of Marburg.

His wife Thekla Sophie Marie Anna Freiin von Schaumburg, who died in 1892, transferred the inherited estates Seggerde, Altena , Weferlingen , Hasselburg and Lemsell to her brother-in-law, the chamberlain and district administrator a. D. Eduard von Davier .
