history

Coat of arms of the von Spiegel family on the outer wall of the Altena manor

The Altena residential area goes back to a manor of the same name . In 1629 Altena passed from the von Bülow family to the von Spiegel family . Altena was also the seat of a noble court , which also included Mackendorf and Saalsdorf and was abolished in the French era . Then Altena came to the canton of Weferlingen in the Helmstedt district , in the Oker department of the Kingdom of Westphalia .

Werner Friedrich Julius Stephan von Spiegel died in 1877 and left the Altena manor to his widow Thekla Sophie Marie Anna Freiin von Schaumburg. Since the marriage had remained childless, the Altena manor , which was then part of the Duchy of Braunschweig , passed after her death in 1891 or 1892 to her brother-in-law Eduard Wiprecht von Davier , whose management he passed on to his nephew August Rudolf Karl von Davier (1853-1936).

From 1945 on, Altena was on the inner German border , so that the place was cut off from the previous power supply by Landelektronik GmbH Halle (Saale) . Therefore, a new power line was laid, which led from Mackendorf via Saalsdorf to Altena and was fed by Landelektronik GmbH Fallersleben .

Altena has been part of the Bahrdorf community since July 1, 1972. The Altena biogas plant was built around 2012. However, Biogas Altena GmbH & Co. KG is based in Rickensdorf , and a partner is a member of the von Davier family.

The coat of arms of the von Spiegel family , three round framed mirrors, can still be seen on the outer wall of the estate. On the crowned helmet there is an open red flight, covered on both sides with the three mirrors.
