Friedrich (Friedel) Wilhelm Carl Alexander Adolf Maurer (born October 10, 1859 in Gießen , † July 8, 1936 in Jena ) was a German physician.

Life

Friedrich Wilhelm Carl Alexander Adolf was the son of the public prosecutor and later higher regional judge Wilhelm Ludwig Maurer (born October 20, 1825 in Darmstadt; † February 5, 1906 ibid.) And his wife Sidonie Scharfenberg (born September 15, 1834 in Michelstadt i. Odw. ; † May 31, 1903 in Darmstadt) born.

In 1871 he began to study medicine at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg. From Easter 1881 Maurer studied at the University of Leipzig . Returning to Heidelberg, he passed his medical state examination in 1883 and received his doctorate in medicine in the same year. In addition, he had worked from January 4, 1883 to August 1, 1884 as an assistant to the anatomist Oscar Hertwig in Jena and from October 1, 1884 to October 1, 1888 as an assistant to Gegenbaur in Heidelberg. On October 1, 1888, Maurer completed his habilitation in Heidelberg, became an associate professor at Easter 1893 and represented von Gegenbaur's professorship until April 1, 1900. On April 1, 1901, he took over the full professorship of anatomy at the University of Jena and was associated with it as director the anatomical institute in Jena.

On July 22, 1908, he was appointed a secret councilor, on August 31, 1910, he became a knight of the Duke Ernestian House Order and on December 24, 1913, he was commander of the Order of the White Falcon . He also participated in the organizational tasks of the Jena University and was rector of Salana in the winter semester of 1906 and in 1917/18 . In 1898 he became a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . In 1932 he retired from his professorship and died four years later at his last place of work. Maurer was the editor of the Jenaische Zeitschrift für Naturwissenschaften and made a name for himself primarily through his morphological work.

Maurer married on August 13, 1894 in Heidelberg with Marie Fremery (born April 13, 1875 in Crimmitschau;) the daughter of the businessman Christian Fremery (born March 17, 1840 in Aachen, † May 5, 1885 in Heidelberg) and his wife Marie Brünninghausen (born November 8, 1842 in Cologne, † June 29, 1900 in Heidelberg).
