Friedrich Meznik

Friedrich ("Fritz") Meznik (born February 4, 1908 in Vienna ; † August 4, 1989 ibid) was an Austrian lawyer and journalist.

Career

Meznik studied law at the University of Vienna and graduated with a doctorate in January 1932. Since 1929 he was a member of the Catholic student union KÖHV Franco-Bavaria Vienna . After working at the courts, he joined the financial administration in July 1933. In 1936 he moved to the trade policy section at the Federal Ministry of Trade and Transport . When Austria was annexed to the German Reich, he was transferred to a criminal offense in March 1938 and dismissed from the public service in August 1938. From then on he worked as a freelance journalist.

In 1942 he was called up for military service. He deserted in France and joined the Resistance . In 1945 he became head of the radio program broadcast to Austria from the headquarters of the US Army in Paris.

After returning to Austria, he worked for the Federal Press Service from 1946 . From 1955 until his retirement in July 1972 he was its director.

Meznik was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery .
