Friedrich Molters

Anton Friedrich Molters (born October 3, 1779 in Hanover , † December 5, 1842 in Emmerberg near Hanover) was a German tailor, painter, coat of arms painter and drawing teacher.

Life

Anton Friedrich Molters was born in 1779 in the municipality of the Hanover market church as the son of the master tailor Jobst Conrad Molters.

According to Hanover's address books , Molters was still listed as a tailor in 1817, then as a painter from 1818, and later as a coat of arms painter and drawing teacher. He initially lived in Schmiedestrasse , followed by Osterstrasse and at the Aegidienkirche and finally in the - then - town of Emmerberg, which at that time was still in front of the Aegidientor .

In 1833, Molters received the order from the then Royal Hanoverian Court Garden Administration to produce drawings "[...] based on nature" of the types of fruit cultivated on the Royal Fruit Tree Plantation in Herrenhausen . As a result, 170 images of apples, pears and peaches have been preserved as unique specimens, which "[...] convey a variety of sizes, shapes and colors [astonish] and [...] a clear impression of the variety of varieties in the heyday of fruit growing". The gouaches are owned by the Lower Saxony Foundation and were part of the 2009 exhibition in the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Library - Lower Saxony State Library “From the advantages of the manor trees fruit trees” Insights into the Royal Garden Library in Herrenhausen .

The well-known gouaches from the provenance of the Royal Garden Library in Herrenhausen are bound in several volumes under titles such as illustration and description of the apples, which are in the Königl. Fruit tree plantation in Herrnhausen can be called up online as digital copies of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Library including a handwritten letter written by Molters on October 14, 1833 to the master plantation in Herrenhausen, Christian Wilhelm Metz .
