Friedrich Reiss (politician, 1864)

Friedrich Reiss (born March 18, 1864 in Prague , † November 14, 1934 in Oberwart ) was an Austrian politician ( CS ), editor and printer owner. Reiss was married and from 1923 to 1927 a member of the Burgenland Landtag .

Reiss was born as the son of Elias Reiss from Prague and attended the cavalry cadet school in Mährisch Weißkirchen . He then did his military service in Kőszeg with the Hussar Regiment No. 9 and was then employed in a leading position in the Hungarian milling industry. Reiss, who was originally of Jewish faith, but later converted to the Evangelical Church AB, finally moved to Oberwart, where he took over the L. Schodisch printing company in 1911. He was subsequently the owner and editor of the Oberwarter Sunday newspaper and was appointed to the Commercial Council in 1926. In addition, Reiss represented the Christian Social Party from November 13, 1923 to May 20, 1927 in the Burgenland state parliament.

Reiss also published the only official journal of Lajtabánság and was the landlord of the dictator Pál Prónay during his stay in the region. He described the proclamation of this dictatorship as a world historical event, although the project was doomed to failure and he must be aware of the pogroms against Jews ordered by Prónay.
