Friedrich Riedel (born February 3, 1921 - April 19, 2010 ) was a football player in the DS-Oberliga . In the top division of GDR football , he played for the BSG Empor Lauter .

Career as a soccer player

After the end of the Second World War in Lauter, a town in the Ore Mountains, SV Viktoria, which had previously been successful in football, was banned by the victorious powers, so football was initially continued by SG Lauter. The sports community of the 8,000-strong community continued the successful tradition when they became Saxon runner-up in 1950 and qualified for the new second-class DS league . Friedrich Riedel, who played as a defender, was involved. Riedel was also part of the game when the Lauterer, meanwhile as the company sports association (BSG) upstream, won the season in the DS league in 1952 and thus fought for promotion to the DS upper league. In the promotion season 1951/52 Riedel had been in goal because of the failure of the regular goalkeeper in the first four point games, only then did he return to the defense, in which he played another 15 point games as a left defender. After the end of the league game series Empor Lauter competed against the second league relay winner BSG Motor Jena for the league championship. Four games were required before Lauter became league champions after 1: 0, 1: 5, 0: 0 a.d. and 3: 0. Riedel was a defender in the first three finals.

In their first league season, neither the BSG Empor nor Friedrich Riedel had any adjustment problems. Out of 17 teams, Empor came in 10th place at the end of the season, and Riedel was an undisputed regular under the new coach Walter Fritzsch . Of the 32 played point games, Riedel played 28 games, in which he was initially used on the right defensive side, later as a right defender. At the beginning of his second league season, Riedel was already 32 years old. Nevertheless, the new coach Heinz Pönert trusted the defensive routine in the first four point games. After that, however, Riedel was replaced by Karl-Heinz Singer , who was seven years his junior , and after Riedel had represented stopper Kurt Zapf again at the 20th championship game , Riedel's senior league career was ended. In his two first division seasons he had 34 league appearances in which he scored two goals as a defensive player.
