Friedrich Seggel

Friedrich Seggel (born May 12, 1877 in Munich ; † 1965 ) was an Evangelical Lutheran pastor in Mistelgau , Bayreuth district .

Life

Friedrich Seggel studied Protestant theology at the universities in Munich, Erlangen and Leipzig. Besides u. a. Otto Weber and Hans Bluntschli , he was one of the founding members of the Christian student association Munich Wingolf in 1896 . In the following two years he also joined the Erlanger Wingolf and the Leipzig Wingolf .

In his sermon in Mistelgau and in the branch church in Glashütten on November 16, 1938 (on the occasion of the Day of Repentance and Prayer), Friedrich Seggel had condemned the riots against the Jews during the so-called Reichspogromnacht . , November 10, 1938) against the Jews are to be condemned from a Christian standpoint. A Christian would not do that, they were subhumans. He was then charged on February 28, 1939, for offending against Section 2 of the Act against Insidious Attacks on the Party and State, and arrested by the police in March 1939.

In October 1934 he had also actively participated in the protests against the forced removal of the bishop of the Bavarian regional church, Hans Meiser .

In Mistelgau a street is named after Friedrich Seggel.
