Life

Prince Friedrich Sigismund in his plane (1914)

Like all born princes of the royal house, Friedrich Sigismund received the rank of lieutenant in the 1st Guards Regiment at the age of 10, but without initially doing active service with the troops. At last he stood à la suite of this regiment. He had done active service in the 2nd Leib-Hussar Regiment "Queen Victoria of Prussia" No. 2 and took part in the First World War as Rittmeister . After the fronts froze, Friedrich Sigismund was transferred to the air force and was most recently the leader of a field pilot's department.

After the war, he decided to go horse riding and trained as a dressage and cross-country rider. In 1924 he was considered the champion of German tournament sports. He was supposed to represent Germany at the 1928 Summer Games in Amsterdam . On the day of an Olympic dressage test in Lucerne, he suffered a fatal riding accident. His wife Marie-Luise was a successful rider in the 1920s. The former Diringshofen villa on Lehnitzsee was chosen as a domicile for Friedrich Sigismund. After the accident, his widow chose the house in Neu Fahrland as her permanent residence for herself and her two children.

death

During his morning work with the Trakehner Posidonius, Friedrich Sigismund fell so unhappily while jumping over a moat that he died on July 6, 1927, despite a quick emergency operation in Lucerne. He was buried in the family grave in the park of Klein Glienicke.

Marriage and offspring

On April 27, 1916, he married Marie Luise Princess zu Schaumburg-Lippe (* February 10, 1897 in Oedenburg; † October 1, 1938 in Neu Fahrland ) in the hunting lodge in Glienicke , who, as a passionate rider, showed a great deal of understanding for her husband's interests. Marie-Luise was the eldest daughter of Prince Friedrich zu Schaumburg-Lippe (1868–1945) and Princess Louise of Denmark (1875–1906), a daughter of the Danish King Friedrich VIII. Together they had two children:

  • Luise Viktoria Margarethe Antoinette Sieglinde Alexandrine Stephanie Thyra Princess of Prussia (* 23 August 1917 - † 23 March 2009)
