Friedrich Karl of Prussia (1893–1917)
Friedrich Karl Prince of Prussia, full name Tassilo Wilhelm Humbert Leopold Friedrich Karl (born April 6, 1893 in the Glienicke hunting lodge in Klein-Glienicke Forest , † April 6, 1917 at Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray , Seine-Maritime Department ) was a member of the German imperial family . He was part of the German riding team that won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in 1912 .
Life
Friedrich Karl was the son of Prince Friedrich Leopold of Prussia (1865-1931) and Princess Louise Sophie of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg (1866-1952), daughter of Duke Friedrich VIII of Schleswig-Holstein (1829-1880) and Sister of the last German Empress . He had two older siblings, Viktoria Margarete (1890–1923) and Friedrich Sigismund (1891–1927) and a younger brother, Friedrich Leopold (1895–1959).
Like all born princes of the royal house, Friedrich Karl received the rank of lieutenant in the 1st Guards Regiment on foot at the age of 10 , without doing any active service with the troops. Because of his bizarre lifestyle, Friedrich Karl's father was in a permanent conflict with the head of the family, Wilhelm II. He ensured that the parents were largely excluded from social life, including the transfer of the two younger sons to cadet institutions from the age of ten. Most recently Friedrich Karl stood à la suite of the 1st Guards Regiment.
He fought in World War I between 1914 and 1917. He commanded the aviation department ( artillery ) 258, but flew as often as possible on patrols with Oswald Boelcke (1891-1916). During such a flight he was injured in the foot on March 21, 1917 and forced to land by being hit in the plane. Although he landed in no man's land , he was hit in the back by Australian troops while trying to reach his own lines . The Australians brought him into captivity, where he died of his wounds on April 6, 1917 near Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray.
