At the V Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 , five riding competitions were held.
dressage
At that time, dressage had by no means established itself as an independent equestrian sport . Piaffe and passage were not yet required, instead five jumps over obstacles up to 110 cm high were required, the last of which was a roller rolling towards the horse.

Eventing (Military)
Due to the close connection between the eventing test and the military, only active officers represented their country on horseback. The horses, in turn, had to be their own service horses. The competition at that time dragged on over five days. The first day consisted of a 55-kilometer cross-country ride, into which a separately rated cross-country obstacle course at a speed of 333 m / min was inserted. After a day of rest, there was a hunting gallop over 3500 meters with ten easy steeplechase jumps on the third day. Jumping was held on the fourth day and dressage on the last day.
27 riders from seven nations (maximum 4 per country) started. 15 riders from 4 nations and 4 teams made it into the final result.
