Friedrich Walser

Friedrich Walser also Walser-Hindermann (born January 30, 1841 in Reinach , Canton Basel-Landschaft , † May 14, 1922 in Basel ) was a Swiss architect .

Life

The pastor's son Friedrich Walser studied from 1859 to 1864 at the building school of the Swiss Federal Polytechnic in Zurich . Subsequently, he worked for Gottfried Semper , then from 1869 to 1875, initially together with Károly Benkó, and later alone in Budapest . In 1879 he settled in Basel as a freelance architect. Walser, who married Elisabeth Katharina, born in Basel in 1884, died there in 1922 at the age of 81. He was the uncle of Karl and Robert Walser .

Friedrich Walser was involved, among other things, in the interior design of the auditorium of the Zurich Polytechnic under Semper . In Budapest he built the Lloyd and Börsen building together with Benkó, erected between 1869 and 1871. In Basel he built numerous residential and commercial buildings, including the Basel industrial school and the house of the Christian Merian Foundation. In 1890, construction began on the Basel industrial museum , which was moved into in 1892. This was planned by Walser and Heinrich Reese .
