Requests from the Faculty of Philosophy to get him a professorial position in chemistry were rejected several times. When Robert Bunsen took over the professorship for chemistry in the philosophical faculty and the management of the academic laboratory in the fall of 1852, an agreement was also reached between the philosophical and medical faculties. In 1853 Delffs became a full professor of chemistry and toxicology.
