Franz Wilhelm Kieling

Julius Franz Wilhelm Kieling (born March 14, 1902 in Leipzig ; † May 2, 1953 in Bad Oldesloe ) was a German administrative lawyer , mayor and writer .

Life and work

After graduating from high school, Kieling studied law . During his studies in 1920 he became a member of the Teutonia Jena fraternity . He received his doctorate and entered the Thuringian administrative service in 1924. From 1928 to 1932 he was city counsel (i.e. head of the legal office) for the city of Gera . During the Second World War, Kieling was initially released from military service against his will. In 1941/1942 he did military service as a war administrator in Army Group South . He was temporarily arrested on June 4, 1945.

Public offices

On January 19, 1932, Kieling was appointed mayor of Bad Oldesloe , the largest town in the Stormarn district . He was very committed to moving the district administration from the independent city of Wandsbek to Bad Oldesloe, but even after Wandsbek was incorporated into Hamburg by the Greater Hamburg Law, the administration remained there until the bombing in 1943. The dispute over the administrative headquarters led to a permanent rift with District Administrator Constantin Bock von Wülfingen . In 1943, after Bock von Wülfingen had switched to the Hamburg civil service, Kieling was appointed deputy district administrator.

After the end of National Socialist rule, Kieling was initially on leave and released from the service of the city of Bad Oldesloe on December 17, 1947 . From December 1, 1948 to May 15, 1950 he was district director of the Stormarn district .

Political party

It is still unclear whether Kieling ever joined the NSDAP . However, his speeches and writings make it clear that he identified with the goals of National Socialism .

Kieling was also active as a writer. He published three detective novels and a play that premiered in Bad Oldesloe in 1960.

Franz Wilhelm Kieling had been with Marianne, born on August 11, 1928. Sanders, married. The couple had two children together. Kieling's sister Johanna was married to the actor Walter Amtrup .
