Friedrich von Montfort

Friedrich I von Montfort (* before 1264; † June 3, 1290 in Werdenberg ) was bishop of Chur from 1282 until his death .

Life

Friedrich came from the family of the Counts of Montfort, descended from the Count Palatine of Tübingen . His parents were Hugo II, Count von Montfort, and his wife Elisabeth von Burgau, the Chur bishop Heinrich I von Montfort was his uncle, his brother Wilhelm was abbot of St. Gallen another brother, Heinrich, was provost in Chur. Friedrich was canon from 1264 to 1269 and provost in Chur from 1273 to 1282 . On November 27, 1282 he was elected Bishop of Chur. In 1287 he participated in the synod in Würzburg .

Friedrich supported his brother, the St. Gallen abbot Wilhelm, in a feud against Rudolf I and the Counts of Werdenberg and was captured in 1289 during a battle near Balzers . He died trying to escape from Werdenberg Castle .
