Konrad von Belmont

Conrad III. von Belmont (* 1240/45 in Oberratsien ; † late August or early September 1282 in Dieburg ) was bishop of Chur from 1273 until his death .

Life

Konrad came from the wealthy family of Barons von Belmont in Graubünden . He was the son of Heinrich II Freiherr von Belmont. Konrad was canon in Chur in 1270 and is documented as bishop there from 1273. In 1273 he gave the cathedral chapter new statutes and in 1277 brought the Dominicans to Chur, who settled in the Dominican monastery of St. Nicolai . With the barons of Vaz he agreed on their property rights and pledges. The Fürstenburg in Vinschgau was built during Konrad's tenure . He died in Dieburg, Hesse, in 1282 on the trip to the Mainz Provincial Synod and was buried in the family crypt of the Barons von Belmont in the Cathedral of Chur .
