Frigate Bay (St. Kitts)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Frigate Bay is the name of two bays on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean island state of St. Kitts and Nevis . They are close to each other but on the one hand go north to the Atlantic and on the other hand to the south on the Caribbean Sea .

geography

The two bays are separated by the isthmus that separates the Southeast Peninsula from the larger, northern part of the island. The connecting piece at Basseterre is a lowland between Sir Timothy's Hill in the south and the Morne Hills in the north. The transition is characterized by swampy terrain and several salt ponds (salt lakes). The bay on the north coast is heavily developed, and the Brazilian ambassador in St. Kitts and Nevis also resides at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort & The Royal Beach Casino, 858 Frigate Bay Road. There are several hotels that are named after the bay. The southern bay is formed by a spit that cuts off one of the salt ponds from the sea. The sandbar that forms the popular beach is correspondingly narrow.
