The Fritz-Erler-Straße is a street in the Karlsruhe district Downtown East . It was built in 1968 after large parts of Klein-Karlsruhe were demolished in the area. The street is named after Fritz Erler , an SPD politician who was active in the resistance against National Socialism .
Location and course
Fritz-Erler-Straße, which runs in a north-south direction, is located between Kaiserstraße in the north and Mendelssohnplatz or Kriegsstraße in the south. It is continued to the north by Waldhornstrasse and to the south by Rüppurrer Strasse.
Zähringerstraße crosses Fritz-Erler-Straße in the form of a bridge, on which the so-called bridge restaurant is located. In the southern section, Fritz-Erler-Straße leads over the underground land ditch (Karlsruhe) .
Fritz-Erler-Straße is used by pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and trams. Sidewalks and cycle paths run along the outer edges, car lanes and, in some cases, parking lanes connect to the inside, while the rails run in the middle. Rows of trees were laid out in places between the rails and the carriageways. There is a tram stop of the same name along Fritz-Erler-Straße .
history
Fritz-Erler-Straße runs in an area that was part of Klein-Karlsruhe until the 1960s . Due to the inadequate infrastructure and inadequate maintenance of a large part of the buildings, a renovation of the area in Klein-Karlsruhe was carried out. After the existing development had been largely demolished, Fritz-Erler-Straße was built in 1968.
The road construction resulted in a separation of the Dörfle area into the two parts to the west and east of the road, the previously continuously connected Zähringerstraße was divided into two parts. To counteract this separation, the Zähringerstraße was led by a pedestrian and cyclist bridge over the Fritz-Erler-Straße, as a connection between the former village area around the Kronenplatz and the larger eastern area. In the middle of the bridge, and thus above Fritz-Erler-Straße, there is now a bridge restaurant.
Construction work as part of the combined solution
Fritz-Erler-Strasse is also affected by the construction work on the combination solution . The northern end of the street is affected by the construction of the tram tunnel under Kaiserstrasse, the southern end of the street by the construction of the car tunnel under Kriegsstrasse.
