Fritz Aldinger (born April 30, 1941 in Marbach am Neckar ) is a German materials scientist.

Life

Fritz Aldinger completed his Abitur at the Justinus-Kerner-Gymnasium Heilbronn . From 1961 he first studied chemistry at the University of Stuttgart , but switched to metal science after completing his intermediate diploma . The then professor for metal science, Werner Köster , was also director of the Max Planck Institute for Metals Research . He carried out the work for both his diploma thesis and his dissertation in the laboratories of the MPI for Metals Research. He received his doctorate in 1967 at the University of Stuttgart with a dissertation "On the structure of the four-component system silver-copper-zinc-cadmium".

From 1967 to 1978 Aldinger was a research assistant at the MPI for Metals Research, where he headed the Institute's Powder Metallurgy Laboratory (PML). From 1978 to 1985 head of the metals division at WC Heraeus GmbH in Hanau . In 1985 Aldinger moved to Hoechst AG as director of central research . From 1992 until his retirement in 2007 he was director at the Max Planck Institute for Metals Research and at the same time full professor for "Nonmetallic Inorganic Materials" at the University of Stuttgart.

Aldinger dealt scientifically with numerous topics: he made "fundamental contributions to the calculation of phase relationships in higher multi-substance systems and thus contributed to the breakthrough in their computer-aided, arithmetic recording". Furthermore, during his time at the PML, he succeeded in clearing up deformation anomalies of beryllium . His publication list includes over 600 titles and more than 50 basic patents and patent investments . He has also presented extensive research on " precursor ceramics " , which received worldwide attention , in which he was able to elucidate the essential relationships between the structure of the molecular precursors used and the ceramic materials produced.

The Institute for Scientific Information's "Highly Cited" database has him in its list of the 250 most cited scientists worldwide in the Materials Sciences category.
