from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fritz Brunner (actually Johann Friedrich Brunner ; born December 27, 1839 in Riesbach ; died August 6, 1886 in Zurich ) was a Swiss architect of historicism . Together with his brother Adolph , he ran the architecture firm Adolph and Fritz Brunner in Zurich from 1865 until his death .

Education and career

Fritz Brunner graduated from 1855 to 1857 a draftsman apprenticeship with Johann Caspar Wolff , and he also heard as a guest at the newly founded Federal Polytechnic in Gottfried Semper . In 1858 he was with Jean-Henri Bachofen in Geneva before returning to the ETH. After a year-long job at the municipal building department in Basel, he went, like his brother before, to Hans Rychner in Neuchâtel and then also worked for Émile Boeswillwald in Paris.

In 1865 he and his brother founded their own office. Only a few independent works are known by Fritz Brunner, the main part of his work was created together with his brother, who also did not create buildings until after Fritz's death. Above all, his own house in Riesbach should be mentioned here. Increasingly weakened by a heart and liver disease in 1883, he died in Zurich in 1886, his brother continued to run the office.
