Fritz Frey (local history researcher)

Fritz Frey (born February 2, 1881 in Handschuhsheim ; † February 27, 1962 ) was a German teacher and local historian.

Life

As the son of a master baker, Frey attended schools in Handschuhsheim and Heidelberg , then the preparation institute in Tauberbischofsheim and the teachers' seminar in Ettlingen . After a time as a primary school candidate and a second service examination, he was the main teacher from 1910. In 1931 he became rector of the Handschuhsheim primary school. In 1945 he was appointed to the Heidelberg City School Council. In 1949 he retired.

In addition to his professional activity, Frey mainly devoted himself to local studies . In 1919 he campaigned for the tradition of the linden dance to be resumed. He wrote numerous folk games with Handschuhsheimer content, including Hendesse , Diether von Handschuhsheim , Die Leitze-Mühl , Aunt Felix and Carl Rottmann . Frey promoted the youth hostel concept and founded the youth hostels in the Tiefburg (Handschuhsheim) and in the Schlösschen (Handschuhsheim) . He was involved in numerous clubs. Died shortly after his 81st birthday, Handschuhsheim was buried in the cemetery.
