In 1922 he was also appointed music director of the “Concert Association for Ulm and Upper Swabia” and in 1923 was also appointed organist and director of church music at Ulm Minster. This made Hayn the dominant figure in Ulm's musical life. When he was called up for military service at the end of 1940, his musical activity was temporarily interrupted. In 1956 Hayn, who had been awarded the title of professor in 1952, retired.
