Fritz Köll (born June 7, 1927 in Munich ; † April 18, 2018 ) was a German wind musician and composer .

Life

Fritz Köll was one of the pioneers in the renewal of the originally baroque Colla parte band practice of vocal-instrumental music-making "Cantare et Sonare". He composed numerous choral works with variable wind instrumentation, which are stylistically contemporary and make relevant contributions to making music with artistic demands. Pure brass pieces were also created, mainly from the collaboration with the Munich ensemble "Blasengel vom Petersturm". For this ensemble, Fritz Köll also wrote commissioned works for making music in the open air with an independent formal and structural conciseness. There are suites with an extended brass line-up, which, above all, make a valuable contribution to the field of practical wind music thanks to the polyphonic processing of folk music motifs in harmoniously well-profiled sound.
