Fritz Kötter (born November 8, 1857 in Berlin , † August 17, 1912 in Schopfheim ) was a German mathematician specializing in applied mathematics . In the field of technical mechanics he was the first professor at the TU Berlin .

Kötter studied in Berlin and at the University of Halle , where he received his doctorate in 1883 ( On the balance of flexible, inextensible surfaces ). In 1887 he completed his habilitation in Berlin, where he was also one of those who supported Karl Weierstraß in the publication of his works. In 1895 he was appointed professor to the newly created chair for mathematics at the Bergakademie. From 1900 he was the first professor for technical mechanics at the TU Berlin, where he taught until his death. In 1910 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

He also dealt with earth pressure theory and wrote an overview article about it in the annual report of the German Mathematicians Association .

Hans Reissner is one of his doctoral students .

Fritz Kötter was the brother of Ernst Kötter .
