Life
Fritz Keller was of Jewish origin and his real family name was Kohn . He studied from 1897 to 1903 at the building school of the Technical University in Vienna with Karl Mayreder , with whom he also did an internship from 1900 to 1901. In 1901 he had his name officially changed to Keller . After obtaining his diploma, Keller worked from 1903 to 1905 as assistant to Karl Mayreder's chair for architecture, architectural drawing and painting perspective at the Technical University. In 1905 the doctorate to Dr. techn. From 1906 he worked as a freelance architect, and between 1910 and 1912 he entered into a studio community with his former classmate Fritz von Herzmanovsky-Orlando . Keller died in unexplained circumstances in 1938 and was buried in Vienna's central cemetery. Fritz Keller's son was the musician and musicologist Hans Keller (1919–1985), who moved to England in 1938.
meaning
Fritz Keller only built residential and office buildings, most of which were built before the First World War. He mostly worked with other architects, whose handwriting can be more or less clearly read on the buildings. There are late historical and secessionist facade designs as well as more austere-looking, neoclassical designs that are close to the Wiener Werkstätte . For the only residential complex from the 1920s that he realized, the Viennese municipal building style is again the model.
