Fritz Klingmüller

Fritz Klingmüller (born September 8, 1871 in Strehlen , † April 24, 1939 in Berlin ) was a German legal scholar .

Life

From 1890 Fritz Klingmüller studied law at the universities of Breslau and Halle , where he was particularly influenced by Rudolf Stammler and Eugen Huber . After graduating, he began his legal preparatory service in Berlin, passed the second state examination in 1899 and was awarded a doctorate in 1900 in Breslau. iur. PhD . In addition to his work as a court assessor, he completed his habilitation in 1901 at the University of Wroclaw for Roman and civil law .

At the University of Breslau, Klingmüller was appointed a non-official extraordinary professor in 1907 and was made civil servant a year later. When the First World War broke out , he volunteered and served at the front for three years, most recently as captain. In 1916 he accepted a call to the chair for civil and Roman law at the University of Greifswald . However, he could not answer the call until 1917 because he was being treated in the hospital.

Klingmüller worked in Greifswald for 16 years. After the takeover of the Nazis , he was together with other politically unpopular colleagues to retire displaced (due to the § 4 of the Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil ). To prevent further denunciation , he moved to Berlin, where he died six years later.

Klingmüller dealt with numerous aspects of Roman and civil law. He mixed historical and dogmatic approaches. He provided explanations and studies on individual aspects of Roman law, including association law and the law of obligations .
