Fritz Koenen

Fritz Koenen (* July 1895 in Cologne ; † August 1978 in Waldbröl ) was a German zoologist and painter .

Life

Fritz Koenen studied from 1911 to 1914 at the Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt am Main with Otto zur Strassen and from 1914 to 1915 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . After the First World War , Koenen continued his studies with Sailer in Munich (1918–1923). From 1923 until the beginning of the Second World War , Fritz Koenen worked as a freelance artist in Cologne. He lived from 1948 to 1978 in Waldbröl in the Bergisches Land and died there in August 1978.

One focus of his work was the illustration of various zoological books. He also made a name for himself as a non-fiction author . His booklet on the red fox ( Neue Brehm-Bücherei ) appears unchanged to this day.
