Fritz Laubenthal (* 1901 in Cologne ; † December 1944 missing in the Balkans ) was a German painter .

Life

Laubenthal was born the son of a boat builder in Cologne. His brother Paul was a glider pioneer in the 1920s who died early in an aircraft accident.

In 1925 Laubenthal moved to Munich to make his life as a painter there. He lived in Schwabing until his untimely death . Most of the landscape pictures from the Upper Bavarian region in a relaxed academic style have been preserved, as well as seascapes and architectural depictions. Little is known about his artistic training. Some traditional anecdotes characterize him as an extravagant personality in the Schwabing art bohemian of his time.

In World War II Laubenthal was drafted as a soldier and is officially in the Balkans lost. The date of death is given as December 1944.
