Fritz Prechtl

Fritz Prechtl (born December 27, 1923 in Vienna ; † September 12, 2004 in Forchtenstein ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and an official of the Austrian Federal Railways . Prechtl was a member of the Federal Council from 1971 to 1975 and a member of the Austrian National Council from 1975 to 1986 .

After compulsory schooling, Prechtl completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter at the Austrian Federal Railways and in 1941 passed the journeyman's examination as a fitter. In 1945 he joined the ÖBB main workshop in Simmering as a locksmith and from 1950 was the local group chairman of the railway workers' union in the main workshop in Simmering. In 1959 he rose to become a member of the central committee for employees of the ÖBB, and in 1965 he took over the chairmanship of the railway workers' union. From 1966 to 1975 he was vice-president of the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees for Vienna 1 and from 1971 president of the International Transport Workers Federation . From 1975 he also acted as chairman of the central committee for employees of the ÖBB. Prechtl represented the SPÖ from October 22, 1971 to October 17, 1975 in the Federal Council and from November 4, 1975 to December 16, 1986 in the National Council.
