Fritz Rößling (born February 6, 1927 in Mannheim ; † November 29, 2011 ) was a German football player and coach .

Player career

Fritz Rößling began his career in the youth of SV Waldhof Mannheim . About the second team he finally came in 1948 in the first team of SV Waldhof, for which he played until 1960. Fritz Rößling is one of the club's six honorary captains.

He was part of the team for the first time in the away win against BC Augsburg on September 12, 1948. Although he mostly acted as a striker in his youth, he fought for a regular place as a right defender. During his time at SV Waldhof, he experienced some ups and downs, so he was relegated twice from the Oberliga Süd to the Second League South, but was also promoted twice. The native of Mannheim was appointed to the German national B soccer team twice , both times the opponent was Spain. Germany won 5-2 each time. He made his debut on June 14, 1953 in Düsseldorf in the B national team. He formed the defender couple with Herbert Erhardt from SpVgg Fürth. The DFB-Elf's goalscorers were Alfred Pfaff (2 goals) and Hans Schäfer (3 goals). Previously, he was used by national coach Sepp Herberger at the end of May / beginning of June in several test matches of DFB selection teams against the English professional team Bolton Wanderers , as well as a selection from southern Germany and Berlin. His second international B match took place on May 31, 1956 in Barcelona. Again Erhardt was his partner in defense and Herbert Dörner , Heinz Wewers and Gerd Harpers formed the runner row .

Rößling played his last game on August 28, 1960. In 1961 he was made honorary captain of SV Waldhof Mannheim. In the first-class football league south at the time , the defender completed 194 league games (1 goal) in the World Cup system ; Overall, he is said to have played over 600 games for the blue-blacks.

Coaching career

In 1967 he was interim trainer at SV Waldhof Mannheim, replacing Robert Körner . Then Rößling worked as a trainer and supervisor for the amateur team of SV Waldhof and in the youth division of the club. 1970 to 1972 Rößling was Amicitia Viernheim's trainer . On November 7, 1984 Rößling received the letter of honor for 50 years of membership at SV Waldhof.

Fritz Rößling died on November 29, 2011 at the age of 84.
