The 1965/66 season was the 28th regular staging of the National League A , the highest Swiss league in ice hockey . For the first time in the club's history, the Grasshopper Club became Swiss champions, while HC Villars was relegated to the NLB.

In a common main round, each of the ten teams played in a return match against each group opponent, making the total number of games per team 18. The four best-placed teams qualified for the final round, in which the champions were played. The last placed in the main round was relegated to the NLB. Each team received two points for a win and one point for a tie. If you lost, you didn't get any points.
