Fritz Riedel (soccer player)

Fritz Riedel (born September 19, 1928 ) is a former German football player who was active in Meerane in the 1950s for the BSG progress in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of GDR football .

Athletic career

When the company sports community (BSG) progress Meerane landed on a relegation place after the end of the first half of the 1951/52 season, they took on some new players in their squad, including the 24-year-old Fritz Riedel. He was used from the first match day of the second half of the season and completed all 18 league games as a striker by the end of the season. Although he scored five goals, but could not save the team from relegation. In the GDR league season 1952/53 Riedel played with 21 missions in 24 point games in the regular eleven and with his eight goals had a significant share in the immediate rise. Riedel was able to defend his regular place in his second league season as a striker, because he was only missing in one of the 28 league games and with his six goals was again a reliable goalscorer. The 1954/55 season brought the final end to the league for both BSG Progress Meerane and Fritz Riedel. The BSG ended up in the last place in the table, and Riedel withdrew completely from higher-class football after the last 22 appearances and three goals. So he had come in his short career to 67 league games with 14 goals and 21 GDR league games with eight goals.
