Fritz Albin Ferdinand Riemann (born February 26, 1881 in Schlotheim , † March 9, 1955 in Leipzig ) was the most important private architect and urban planner in Leipzig between the two world wars.

Act

The son of a master baker studied at the Technical University of Darmstadt in 1907/08 . In 1908 he moved to Leipzig, where he worked for the architect Georg Lubowski from 1911 to 1917 . During this time, in addition to private buildings, Riemann also planned the railway settlement in Lindenthal , the expansion of which he managed as an independent architect after the closure of Lubowski's architectural office from 1919. In 1921 he designed a residential complex in Leipzig's Blochmannstrasse. From 1922 to 1939 he was mainly commissioned by the newly founded building cooperative for the Reichsfinanzbeamten, from which the United Leipzig Housing Cooperative (VLW) emerged in 1990 and for which Riemann built around 2000 apartments in the Leipzig districts of Connewitz , Eutritzsch , Gohlis and Leutzsch . In addition to the apartments for his main client, Fritz Riemann designed around 500 apartments and numerous single-family houses for private clients. No plans or designs are known for the period from the end of the Second World War in 1945 until his death in 1955. A residential complex designed between 1940 and 1942 for the Mockau district , the implementation of which failed due to the prohibition on building new houses since 1940, was also no longer implemented.

His grave

Fritz Riemann's grave is located in the Leipzig South Cemetery .
